Confirmed from Channahon State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Channahon State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (722 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“There is also free parking and bathrooms although I haven’t used them yet so I can’t say how well-kept they are”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“Love this place beautiful scenery the birds, the wildlife, flowers make this a very nice place go for a walk or jog, fishing it's great too”

Channahon State Park is a place with rich history. Immediately you walk up to the I&M canal trail to find the lock tenders house. This is one of 2 lock tenders houses that are still standing today. This state park is where the Des Plaines River and Kankakee River meet to form the Illinois River.

I have been to that place 5 times already and it's a nice place to go to and the waterfall is good. Then they have good trails to and with an old schoolhouse and where the DuPage River and the I & M Canal meet. Those pictures are taken in June 2021.

This park is part of the I &M Canal Heritage Corridor. Very well maintained. Beautiful park where you can sit and relax, or take a long hike along the tow path. People fish along the bridge. Fantastic birding site in spring and fall. Very clean with several restrooms options in the park.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
