Confirmed from Churchill Valley Greenway's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Churchill Valley Greenway

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (131 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“Trails are well maintained, and being near the creek you can almost forget it's so close to the highway.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 9 mentions

“The scenic trails were a treat for my three-legged sidekick, and we couldn't help but smile as we explored the beautiful surroundings.”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“Some parts are open and sunny, reflecting its past as a golf course, but many areas are shady, especially near the creek.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“Quiet and peaceful walk through lots of grasses, trees, and wildlife.”

Great place for a walk. The trails are very nice and clear. There are bridges around the area that are award winning bridges. The bridges were built in 1976. They are made of a steel known as cor-ten steel. The wood along the bridges were replaced in 2023 to make it safe for visitors to cross the bridges.

Just moved to Pittsburgh and had a pawsitively awesome first walk at Churchill Valley Greenway! The scenic trails were a treat for my three-legged sidekick, and we couldn't help but smile as we explored the beautiful surroundings.

Awesome. Quiet and peaceful walk through lots of grasses, trees, and wildlife. This is the old Churchill Country Club golf course. The old paved cart paths guide you all around the property. If you walk around at sunrise, you'll probably get to see some deer.

Pleasant hills and a lovely scenery even when barely blooming. The creek was an awesome sight, but they should fix that bridge at the end of the lower trail.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 12 mentions

“Bonus points for stumbling upon a surprise tree swing in the middle of the trail – my dog insisted on a spontaneous tree swing photo shoot!”

  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
