Confirmed from City Lake Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about City Lake Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (191 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 9 mentions

“A great, clean, place to spend a fun afternoon.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Beautiful gazebo to overlook from & a small park for kids to play at but not too close to the water.”

Great park with variety. By variety I mean there is a kids park for the little kids, there is a walking/ cycle path around the lake, some fountains that get turned on when it's hot, ducks and goose to mindlessly stare at and feed, benches to admire the scene, tables and grill units. Very accessible and simple to enter.

★★★★★ — Ted , Mar 2021

Nice park with concrete walking trails, lake, DC ducks, a playground equipment.

★★★★★ — Jeff , Apr 2018

The ducks and geese are a little overwhelming and won't let you eat your lunch in peace and are a little scary for small children. Plus there's the bird poop all over the walking path, but the lake is really pretty and the kids loved the playground.

★★★★☆ — Elena , Jul 2017

Clean park, bring your fishing poles! Lots of ducks & turtles to look at for the kiddos. Love the sidewalk that goes around the "lake", really makes for a great walking path. Beautiful gazebo to overlook from & a small park for kids to play at but not too close to the water.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
