Confirmed from Clapp Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

This green space with a lake also features a 93-acre arboretum with a trail, classes & events.

What runners say about Clapp Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (722 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“I like it because I can take her down to the water holes, ponds, when we're finished and clean all the mud off of her.”

🐕 dog-walking favorite 3 mentions

“My dog LOVES the big dog side of the dog park after it rains really good, because she can play in the high mud hole in the middle of it.”

All I have to say is wow! I have lived in Lubbock off and on for most of my 59 years. I did not know that Clapp park had so much to offer. I have driven by there thousands of times always seeing the little church and always wondering what was going on.

This park has improved so much lately. I love the fact that it has a fenced off section where you can take your dog so they can run around and play. My dog loves it there. There is a section for small dogs and a section for large dogs.

★★★★★ — Lisam , Jun 2025

My pup loves this park, although I'm not to enthusiastic about letting my dog play there for to long. People tend to bring their untrained pets there and most times they are very aggressive and other dog owners really don't pay to much attention to their pets.

★★★★★ — Johnny , Dec 2022

Attended the free movie in the park event. Kids will be kids meaning lots of running and playing. I think if a roped off/secure area was provided, the children would have a alternative to sitting still and the parents could relax more. As it was lots of parents up and down looking for children. Otherwise a great event.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 20 mentions

“Nice park has a dog park basketball and volleyball courts, public swimming pool Picnic areas and playgrounds for the kids but most of all it has a Wildlife habitat Around the Lake”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
