Colored Sands is off the beaten path, it has very few visitors, a bird banding station, a sand prairie surrounded by oak woods, river for canoeing and kayaking. Sugar River Alder Forest Preserve is right across the road if you want to see both.
Walking here from Sugar River FP. Unfortunately it is no pass connection to Colired Sand.
Love this forest preserve! Great 45-55min hike with a view of the Sugar River.
