Confirmed from D&L Trail Black Diamond Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Fairly easy trail to navigate.”

Beautiful, scenic views. Well kept trail that is great for biking or walking. Important to note: this entrance the grade is a slight decline from its beginning. So keep that in mind that if and when you turn around to go back to the lot, it will be slightly uphill the whole way back.

Surprisingly large parking lot for what's a pretty lot of the way place. Rode out crossovers and the handles the trail just fine. Trail surface is crush gravel fairly smooth with the usual spots of mud. Mud wasn't a problem for even with 47 mm tires but it would have been different if it'd recently rained.

Black Diamond Trail was once an active rail line It is a wide, easy biking/walking/hiking trail and mainly level. You can find picnic tables placed throughout the trail. This trail takes you through beautiful Pennsylvania forests. Approx midway (5 miles) is the Moosehead Lake, perfect for fishing or just relaxing.

Always awesome. The ride is pleasant and never crowded. The trail is smooth and well maintained. There is always plenty of parking at the Mountaintop trailhead. Rest facilities (porta johns) are "ok".

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
