Confirmed from Devil's Canyon Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

It’s a lot better than I expected. I was there shortly after there had been some decent rainfall, so there were quite a few streams with watercress growing in them. The falls are really beautiful. It’s strange that the city is so close, it’s a great way to escape the rat race.

I would call it an intermediate hiking experience. Be careful of poison oak along the trail as you get towards the bottom. Did not see any wildlife except a few lizards.A small trail of water that you will walk across as the trail zig zags the bottom. Save your energy for the walk back up to the top.

Cool place to hike around. Not too difficult. Cold in the winter. Make sure if you head out this way to plan accordingly. Good boots or walking shoes, make sure you know where you are and that someone not with you knows where you are going. Bring water. Great idea to bring a little emergency kit in your backpack

Nice quiet trail across Chilao across Angeles Crest Highway. Not well maintained so be ready to jump over fallen logs and places where the trail disappears. This year the streams did not dry up in the summer so plenty of running water in the creek even before winter storm’s.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
