Confirmed from Devil's Tree's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Family-friendly spot for hiking and fishing, plus a legendary oak tree said to be a site of paranormal activity.

What runners say about Devil's Tree

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (56 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

👟 good for all levels 2 mentions

“It's a small park with a playground, pavilion, bathrooms, and a nice easy hike along the canal.”

Interesting place, lots of dark history. The trail was not easy to find for our first time being here, so I added a pin on the map. Walk along the large canal, pass the small canal with the gator sign, walk a couple more minutes and you'll find a trail on the left. Walk less than 5 minutes on that trail to the tree.

Located in the Oak Hammock Park, is this massive oak tree to re-visit the dark history of Port St. Lucie. This tree is easily accessible, but not easy to find if you’re a first timer, to my surprise I’ve asked a few locals and they all gave me wrong directions.

Follow the canal bank on the right til you reach the opening of the trail to the left and you will find the tree, there is history behind this tree.

★★★★★ — Kb , Jul 2023

Cute little park! It's a small park with a playground, pavilion, bathrooms, and a nice easy hike along the canal. Devil's Tree is located down the second left when hiking along the canal. It looks like it can get muddy down there so be careful!

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
