Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (79 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 6 mentions

“So sweet to walk along a clean path and be able to bob in and out of a trail to the river.”

Walked from the Watson Rd parking area all the way to Fourth St and back. I found this to be a very pleasant walk in both directions (about 5.3 miles round trip). Nice views of the Cocheco along the segment between Whittier St and Fourth St.

★★★★☆ — Kylen , Jul 2022

Tried it for a fishing trip with my son. After a decent walk we had access to river and and an amazing spot. Only wished I had right gear, (we saw a fly fisherman in pic), as waters are high this summer. Hidden gem of Dover for sure!

The trail was easy to navigate. The trail is maintained. We followed from Watson Rd. parking lot to Fourth St. In Dover. Pleasant ride beside the river. A few moments may be muddy but a good ride. Ended up at Dustin's bakery and Deli for lunch. Yum!

★★★★★ — Bonnie , Oct 2023

Nice and easy walk through beautiful forest and river scenery. Flat profile, no special shoes needed (sneakers are just fine). A nice waterfalls than a minute of the main path (this part is more steep and slippery).

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
