Although there's plenty of people, they generally seem respectful and it's not the kind of place where there's tons of kids running around and partying or people playing music. Just a quiet Waterfront Park.
Dyke Marsh is an underappreciated natural gem in the DC area. It's not big, but it is beautiful. Lots of birds make for a great bird watching location, including two bald eagles nests. There is a short walking path that goes through the preserve.
It’s a nice walk by the river. Loads of birds to visit here, both in the woods and in the marsh, including nesting bald eagles. It is a little oasis just south of DC - not super crowded either, even on weekends. Parking can be a bit dicey on a pretty day.
A pleasant nature preserve and walk along the Potomac along the mount vernon trail. It's a bit of a walk from alexandria, but the bike ride is easy. The neighboring park has plenty of parking, facilities, and picnic tables.
