Confirmed from East River Greenway's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about East River Greenway
“📍 East River Greenway alongside FDR Dr is a scenic location that I recommend for photography.”
Scenic walkway covered by the FDR with views of the Brooklyn & Manhattan bridge(s). Fairly clean with sections of bar style seating along the river.
Photo's from a beautiful sunset in November. Only be careful with the cyclists and the runners as the path is a bit narrow!
My sister and I have walked this greenway on a nice and sunny day and that there were many people walking, running, or biking on this greenway and this greenway is very scenic provides wonderful views of the east river, bridges, and other things.
Super pretty waterside running path that is very trafficked but not in a way that impedes your run/bike. Tons of space if you want a long run and the views are nice as well. As with most of New York, there are unhomed people living along the path but I never felt threatened or even bothered.
Trail conditions & character
“As you pass under the iconic bridges leading to Manhattan, you get clear views to Brooklyn and Queens, and the sights, sounds, and smells of the cycle will stick with you forever”
“It connects with the Hudson River Greenway on the west side and the Harlem River Greenway on the north to complete the loop.”

The practical stuff
- AccessHours vary — hours are not posted for this trail, so check before an early or late run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
