Confirmed from Ecological Reserve of Upper Newport Bay's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Ecological Reserve of Upper Newport Bay

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (40 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 8 mentions

“Beautiful scenery, easy access, and it connects the other side so you can enjoy both sides.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“I found this place by mistake (a wrong turn), and was surprised by how peaceful it is and overwhelmed by it's beauty.”

One of the favorite bike trail. Beautiful scenery, easy access, and it connects the other side so you can enjoy both sides. There is not enough shade so take your shades and water with you in summer.

There’s a back road/bike path that goes behind a trailer park before it leads to the nature center. You can look back at the bay and beach area that was blocked off from the trail. It offers a good ground level view of the bay.

I found this place by mistake (a wrong turn), and was surprised by how peaceful it is and overwhelmed by it's beauty. The air is super fresh here and you can hear the wind, so quite this place is. There are gorgeous birds and breathtaking views. Great place for biking: there's a nice trail and almost no cars ever.

★★★★★ — Daria , Jun 2018

Went on a beautiful day. Nice ocean breeze. Well maintained trail. Lots of water fowl. About a 2.5 mile trail we went on although there are longer ones if you get closer to the water line. We were alerted of 2 coyotes near, we didn't see them. Great for camera buffs. Beautiful birds to see.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
