We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Elephant Rock yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Elephant Rock
“Beautiful area, Lake Tenkiller and the Illinois River are both fantastic recreation areas.”
We adventured the No Head Hollow Public access route to Echota public access on Christmas day 2025 and had the whole 12 miles to ourselves! Wowie, the river was low, but not so low that it was impassable.
Beautiful area and well worth the trip. Plenty of rental companies that will work with you fairly cheap to get you on the river. Or bring your own Kayaks like we did. Elephant Rock was massive and beautiful. It was pretty crowded around 1:00pm on a Saturday, but most of the traffic coming through was pretty quick.
Spent 4 years in Tahlequah, graduated from Northeastern St University. Beautiful area, Lake Tenkiller and the Illinois River are both fantastic recreation areas. Boating, water sking, scuba diving at the lake and great fishing at both places. Also only 50 miles from Tulsa.
