Confirmed from Elephant Swamp Nature Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Straight, flat rail trail passing farm fields and wooded areas, popular for dog-walking.

“Most of the trail is shaded under the trees while one section is at the edge of a field.”
A really nice outdoor place to take a walk. The trail is a decent length in my opinion. Great scenery to look at. Fun place to explore.
Nice trail that runs from park in elk twp. To Elmer park behind the diner.there are port a pottys at the beginning of Elmer side and one near the end at the baseball park in elk twp. Has benches and is pretty much a straight line about 7 miles long
This trail is ABSOLUTELY beautiful. It’s a good walk each way too. Not only is the scenery of nature quite beautiful, but there are a few collections of art on the trail, including a minion haha. This trail is quite easy as well, it’s just a straight line, and you see so much!
My dog's favorite place to hike. My favorite place to run. Multiple places to start & end so you get varying distances. Wear some spray for bugs, pick up after your dog, mind the other people/dogs/horses/cyclists and you'll have a grand time. If your running the trail do yourself a favor and use the Zombies, Run!

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceCrushed gravel — the rail-trail classic: softer than asphalt, still smooth enough for tempo work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
