Confirmed from Encinitas Viewpoint Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

“Clean, pretty views from the top hill, and the playground is fenced in for saftey from dogs and the road.”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 10 mentions

“Beautiful park and a place for everyone, there is a playground for kids, dog area and ocean views from the upper area with picnic tables and benches to sit and a water fountain.”

🌳 shaded & cool 6 mentions

“We came in the evening and it was almost all shaded because the hill on the west side of the park built a barrier from the sun.”

Nice parts with shade and a fun play ground for the kids. You may have your dog off a leash if they are well behaved. There are plenty of benches to sit on and relax. The parking is free on the street. Go to the library across the street for a restroom.

If we had dogs and kids and lived close to Encinitas Viewpoint Park, you better believe you would find us here every day! This park was so great! Clean, pretty views from the top hill, and the playground is fenced in for saftey from dogs and the road.

★★★★☆ — Rebecca , Aug 2021

This park is an excellent place to relax meet the locals and take in the ocean air. The tourists don't come here it's just far enough off the beaten path to be secluded. Great visa views. I recommend getting a book from the library next door a finding a bench here to spend the day.

★★★★★ — Chris , Aug 2019

This small park is so adorable and neighborly. The off leash dog park hours are limited to M, W, F and Sunday mornings and late afternoons. The Library is directly across the street which is fantastic, as well. It has a nice little trail to check out the excellent views and that is popular at sunset.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
