Confirmed from First Broad River Trail Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

The suspension footbridge is finally finished and flung back across the flowing river! Phoebe the dog was a bit apprehensive at first but enjoyed exploring this fantastically, entirely rebuilt footbridge andnow connected trail!

★★★★★ — Mark , May 2022

Lovely 3 mile tour trip out-and-back trail that us and our dogs enjoyed.

★★★★★ — Mitch , Oct 2023

This trail begins well. It starts out paved, then goes into a neat suspension bridge which is very well made. Turns into gravel soon after. It is roughly 1.6 miles one way, it comes to a dead end. Dusty dirty trail, (do not wear shoes you want to keep clean), is nice and shaded. Benches scattered about.

Are you local to the Shelby area ? Do you work too many hours and have little free time ? Do you miss getting outside , walking and hiking? I know I do , I simply love nature and the outdoors!!! We friends here it is , the best kept secret in Shelby. A stones throw from downtown.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
