Confirmed from Fort Lamar Heritage Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Fort Lamar Heritage Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (111 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Documented as the second most important Civil War site in the state, this fort was the locale of a fierce engagement known as the Battle of Secessionville in which a Confederate force of 1,250 defeated 3,500 Union troops on June 16, 1862. This is one of the few land battle sites fought in the state.

Is it cool, yes. Is it falling apart, sorta feels like it. Some of the maps aren't legible. Might be nice to have some placards on the walking trail to help us "see" it. Most important battle. Give it some credit and attention please!

If you love history this is a good stop to make checking out old spots and relics from our nations making. Tucked away under the oaks and Spanish moss it's a great stop to take in some history or grab some shade on a hot summer day

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
