Confirmed from Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (40 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 3 mentions

“New clean restrooms and bicycle rest area!”

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“The bike trail was very well taken care of and was beautiful from Cadillac, MI to Leroy, MI.”

Rode from the southern tip of Riverside Park to the Cedar Cafe in Cedar Springs and back. About 37 miles. After you leave Riverside Park you ride about 4 miles along commercial businesses. After that it is a beautiful, mostly tree lined path.

I've ridden from Belmont north to Sand Lake several times. Good 17+ mile with some rough paved areas. Another ride from Sand Lake to Morley and back to test dirt portion with new gravel bike. Impressed with facilities at Howard City.

★★★★☆ — Richard , Nov 2021

Enjoyed the walk along the trail. There were signs for food etc along the way. Be careful crossing some of the roads - crossing is not marked so cars may not be used to seeing pedestrians cross.

Had a great adventure, the next year I did Alpena Mi, to Mackinaw Bridge and back. That is a good trail stop and over nighted in Hawk , Cheboygan and Machina's up and back. Recharged battery at Hawk park

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🛣️ Paved surface 8 mentions

“Beautiful ride, well paved after a roughish start going south from Big Rapids.”

Plan your run at Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadwater — reported by runners
