Confirmed from Fugate Woods Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Fugate Woods Nature Preserve
“Family friendly and very quiet and peaceful.”
Great place if you love nature. I ride my bike on the trails. Trails are great for walking as well. Lots of sitting areas and picnic tables.. Family friendly and very quiet and peaceful. I really enjoy spending time on the trails.
A fantastic place. I went on 2 July before sunset. Quiet and serene. Forest bathing as the Japanese say of Quiet walks through forests. I walked the basic loop trail. About 900 meters or about half a mile+. Trails are well maintained and birds are all over. Near Indian Creek too.
I enjoyed my visit today. Lots of trails to walk along. There is an event going on called creatures of the night put on via the University of Illinois extension office. I was able to learn about some of the animals that are in the forest.
Love an unmarked trail 😮💨😎 Almost called 911 to the rescue hah..! I'm kidding! The weather made it a little difficult! Don't be like us! Check the weather app! 😫

Plan your run at Fugate Woods Nature Preserve
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
