The bay side is amazing with natural grasses and trees. Excellent hiking trails and bird watching. The nature center was interesting and we met a wonderful volunteer who helped to explain some of the things that Galveston's State Park is doing for conservation.
Went with my family and dogs, it was really fun! And they had some stuff they didnt say they had so ill clarify here. They have a picnic table next to a fire pit (brong your own wood) we where going to but forgot it at home luckily there are some places that had it for sale.
It’s not open very often, but if you can catch it open it’s worth a visit. An enthusiastic, knowledgeable and talkative senior volunteer showed us around. A very knowledgeable park ranger answered our hardest questions and id’d the photos of skeletons we had taken on the beach.
Two miles of well maintained hiking trails through the prairie and multiple canoe/kayak trails around the lake make this a must when you visit Galveston island. Also, a couple of nice, easily accessible observation decks on the trails.
