Confirmed from Gateway Trails' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Gateway Trails

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (25 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“This lot is right at the beginning of a nice trail; take a hike and walk the hills around the bluff, it is beautiful too!”

No need to go all the way down Grandad Bluff Road to the end of the road to park... unless you don't want to walk, and only want to go to the cement overlook area. This lot is right at the beginning of a nice trail; take a hike and walk the hills around the bluff, it is beautiful too!

★★★★★ — Christina , Dec 2017

Trail is well kept up, beautiful fall leaves. Saw a red tail hawk, deer and beautiful views of the city and the woods. Trails are not steep but wind through the woods.

★★★★★ — Marilyn , Nov 2022

Nice trails I ended up using these to access climbing areas. These trails can get a bit rugged at times for somebody who's not used to it so just be aware of that.

★★★★☆ — Hunter , Sep 2025

Excellent Trails with stunning scenic overviews. Do not miss the trails at nearby Upper Hixon Forest as well which are more challenging and expansive.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
