I had been wanting to go hike in Alamogordo for a while now. I was interested in seeing the views from a mountain along Highway 82 but decided on something different. I parked at Hemmerly Desert Foothills Park and hiked Goat Springs Trail #118. Views of Alamogordo from the top.
To reach the top of the mesa is approximately 1,600 ft elevation change, 4.6 miles horizontal distance, and requires ~2 and a half hours out and back. The last bit feels safer to climb than to hike.
At 1.17 miles, it's shorter than ideal. The senary is great, but doesn't change. No wildlife.
Nice paved trail. My smart watch said it was 1.3 miles around the loop.
