Confirmed from Grand Blanc Commons' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Grand Blanc Commons

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (66 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

Although you can hear loud traffic, it's a nice walk. Muddy in the spring.

★★★★★ — Kaleigh , Apr 2024

A 1300 Sq acre Nature Preserve donated by the McFarlen family. Not well known. In my opinion, one of the best walking trails in Grand Blanc. It is Dog friendly too (byobag🐕). The only downside is there are no restrooms or garbage cans. You can eat your lunch on benches, but there are no picnic tables.

★★★★★ — Ashlie , Jun 2023

A very nice walking trail! There's many paths you can take and your chances of getting lost are pretty high if you have no sense of direction like myself. It sits right behind the library in Grand Blanc, MI and has free parking. Pre-pandemic there were portapotties but it appears they may have been removed for safety.

★★★★★ — John , Sep 2020

Entrance is at the back of the library parking lot. There are several intersecting trails that are well-groomed but the posts marking the trails do not have any maps or information on them so it is easy to get lost.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
