Confirmed from Great River Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

My 1st Hiking experience!! This has to be the most Beautiful, Majestic comune with Nature!! Many trails to choose from . With rocky hills to roots covered forest floors. Beautiful park offering stunning views of Hartford. Great spot to work-out on the outdoor gym. Great spot for lunch. Great spot to walk/run with a dog.

This park is one of my favorite places to go for walks. Depending on which direction you go, you will come across lots of wonderful things. One side has a lot of plants and cool trails of varying difficulty, and the other side takes you farther along the river and to different art installations having to do with a…

What a great find while I was in town for work. Woke up early and took a walk for a few miles along the river. There are picnic tables and a few grills. Benches for sitting and looking at the views. A nice path to walk or run on. Although being winter when I was there you need to be mindful of ice.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Great River Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
  • Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
