Confirmed from Green Hills Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Green Hills Preserve

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (72 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“We were able to do it in just under an hour one way great view from the top!”

Excellent hike up to Peaked Mtn…3.5 miles or so without the loop at the top. Harder than you think it will be but all my kids and the dog did fine. 1 hr up, 40 down. Enjoy the views of the N. Conway area and the opposing ridges.

Why have almost all the water bars been removed from the lower Black Cap trail??? All stones have been rolled back into the woods. The erosion is getting bad. Seems a slap in the face to the hard working trail crew. I have to assume the Conservancy officials are not aware of this vandalism presumably by bikers.

We hiked Peaked and Middle Mountains as a loop on Sunday. There was still parking when we arrived after 10, and the trails weren’t very busy—we sat and hung out on both summits alone for a while. Beautiful trail system, TNC does a great job! Dog friendly but mine stayed home this time.

Awesome place in the area for a short or long hike in the woods. Well marked trails make for an easy amble through the woods, and parking limitations seem to have cut down on the overuse by both locals and visitors alike.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Green Hills Preserve

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
  • Loop distance50 mi back to where you parked. Long enough for a real long run.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
