Confirmed from Green Ridge State Forest's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Large protected forest with rivers, hills & valleys, open for hiking, camping, fishing & hunting.
What runners say about Green Ridge State Forest
“It was clean, well-marked, and I loved seeing the native pollinating plants that were being enjoyed by bees, hummingbirds, butterflies, hummingbird moths, and more.”
“I stopped by on my way home since it was a quick little stop and the view at this point is so beautiful.”
I've been enjoying primitive camping at this state forest for decades. It has a great option of sites and trails. The sites vary in size but a day in the woods is a great day. There is also a firing range available. The Paw Paw tunnel, Bill's Place and Bell Grove are all great stops.
Beautiful, secluded and mountainous. There are tons of birds, snakes, deer and skinks to be seen, we even saw an albino fish. Great roads for a gravel bike tour with fresh streams to cool off in.
Always have a blast camping here! Great place for primitive camping, hiking trails, beautiful scenes, and peace and quiet. One of my favorite places of all time to visit.
It's one of my favorite spots to go camping 🏕 Primitive sites with just a picnic table and spot for a campfire (no rings but plenty of rocks), though they do have group sites available that have a port-a-potty. Registration is easy, and the cost is cheap -$10/day.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
