Confirmed from Halvorsen Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Park with picnic tables and a trail, plus occasional concerts.
What runners say about Halvorsen Park
“Beautiful Bayside park right on Humboldt Bay in Eureka with views of the rest of the north side of the bay towards Arcata and Samoa.”
“A relatively quiet place to park during the day for a few hours.”
Great place for a walk or jog. Beautiful trail. Can also watch the boats go by. Peaceful.
Well, I have to say this is a very underrated park. I mean there are not alot of thing that you can do there but it is a very nice place to walk around. I recommend you to do picnic there. There are table that you can sit on the right and you also able to see the ocean and the boat.
Beautiful little park on the bay. Great to just sit and watch the boats and birds, or to go for a walk on the trail. New found place will soon be a favorite. Seen several people walking dogs so I would think it's dog friendly. There were dog bags provided in the park.
It was "king tide" today. Lots of water near and under Waterfront Trail.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
