Confirmed from Hamlin-Eames-Smyth Recreation and Conservation Area's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Wooded trails (up to 6.7 miles) through forests and wetlands, with lake views and beaver ponds.
What runners say about Hamlin-Eames-Smyth Recreation and Conservation Area
“Trails are well maintained, a good variety of loop trails, nice views, and silence.”
“Excellent trails with lots of options to spend a few hours, get a good workout in, and enjoy beautiful sights along the way.”
“Beautiful trails, easy to follow paths with signage, and the Crockett’s Ledge is worth the hike via the yellow trail.”
This place has trails for everyone. Easier trails are the blue ones, red for a little more of a challenge. Keep the dog on leash near the ledges!
Super New Years hike to Crockett Point... What a great place. We have only scratched the surface on all that is available. We will definitely come back and do other routes. The view from the point is really super. It is a lovely area. Parking is a bit limited... Not sure where to park for overflow if the lot is full.
This was a great find! I never knew these trails existed. We did a two mile relatively easy hike but there are lots of options. It is icy so I would suggest cramp ons.
Great place for a quick hike or a walk in the woods. To answer the previous review about overflow parking, if there are massholes in the lot....feel free to have them towed or push them into the creek yourself and use the spot. They are not welcome here.
Trail conditions & character
“The view at crickets ledge is nice, especially during the winter, and it has multiple ways back to the trailhead at mutliple points which makes it a potential repeat hike!”

“On a nice summer or fall day you can take the one long loop trail and eat lunch, or a snack, at the one granite outcropping overlooking the lake.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
