Confirmed from Harbor Bay Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🌾 quiet & peaceful 6 mentions

“If you don't want to drive far, but want a quiet, flat trail along the bay to "clear your head", this is it.”

Rode my bike from home to grant st in hayward to enter the trail. Went to the Alameda headlands ferry stop just above the Oakland airport and back. A beautiful day . A slight wind and clear skies.

Finding new places to walk for me is difficult because of my mobility problems. This place is PERFECT! Both the asphalt and the cement walkways are easy to maneuver. The views on a clear day are beautiful. It's quiet except for the sound of the water splashing onshore.

★★★★★ — Diane , Sep 2022

Peaceful environment with many trails. Many people come here to take pictures of the ocean and other landscapes. On a clear day you can see the San Francisco Bay bridge in the far distance. Many squirrels along the trails.

Rode my bike today. Nice place to catch some fresh air, ride bikes or walk. Has plenty of parking and public bathrooms.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
