Confirmed from Heritage Rail Trail - York City's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Heritage Rail Trail - York City

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (217 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 5 mentions

“Beautiful rail trail that is a very worthy 20+ mile ( 1 way)all day ride experience that connects directly to the Torrey C.”

🌾 quiet & peaceful 3 mentions

“A good place to hike, ride your bike or just walk and chill listening to music it will calm you and the scenery is okay for nature lovers.”

The driving direction led directly to the parking lot entrance, which was very helpful. The parking is free on the weekends and only by permit during the week. The public restrooms were not available at the time due to Covid19 protocols. The trail is a very nice walk in the city along the Creek.

Took my electric chopper on the trail to new freedom and had a blast just the smooth windy roads and the respect from the others on the trail was like being in the south I love this for peace of mind and good out door event

Great trail! Nice surface, mostly shaded, not a lot of travel along roads, I loved the protected bridge crossing and the availability of water the whole way. It was a lovely way to sightsee in this area, spent over 4 hours leisurely checking it out. And nearly everyone we encountered said hello or gave a nod.

I really liked the previous miles of the trail, but once it hit the city, it just seemed crowded with people who would take up the whole trail. It just felt worse too when you had to stop at all the stoplights. If I were to do it again I would start/end right outside the city.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

The practical stuff
