Confirmed from Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Part nature preserve & bird habitat, part recreational park with ball fields & a playground.
What runners say about Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve
“The town does a great job of keeping it clean and beautiful ❤️”
“Beautiful park with nature trails, farm animals, playground, orchard and nature center.”
Beautiful park with nature trails, farm animals, playground, orchard and nature center. Most controversial issue associated with the park is related to its parking being restricted only to Smithtown residents.
So beautiful! Was just driving by and decided to stop off and wound up walking the whole thing. Nice wooded trails, beautiful park, animals, and they even had an orchard farm! Who would have known. Definitely recommend. Got to see geese flying over head and lots of goats. Always a favorite site to see.
Beautiful park. Tuff rock trail. Lots of picnic space, outdoor water park area, swings for the kids. Small thumb area, very well kept clean
Growing up as a kid, I spent many hours in what was considered "The neighborhood backyard" With many trails, a ball field and area for kids to swing, it is the most special place on earth!

Plan your run at Hoyt Farm Nature Preserve
The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
