Confirmed from Illinois Canyon Trailhead's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Illinois Canyon Trailhead
“Certainly not the most visually-stunning waterfall, but I'm sure there's plenty of more daring folks who wade through the water to see what's beyond.”
“5-16-25, Sunny with shade, low water, maybe a few inches to ford or walk across the logs.”
One of my favorite canyons in the park. Definitely less-traveled because it's at the eastern end. The two times I've been here you have to cross the stream in a few different places. So just plan to hike here knowing that there's a chance you can get wet just sticking to the trail as it meanders back to the canyon.
Beautiful trail that's not too long or difficult, but rewards you with a stunning view of Illinois Canyon. The trail was in great shape and there's a few side trails you can take to explore further. The trail is very quiet, I only saw one other hiker on a Sunday morning.
It was pretty! Very pretty path with lots of water crossings so prepare for wet feet. Bluffs and a nice pool with a v short fall at the end. But no single attraction. Tons of golden oysters! If I came back I’d just do this entire area (east side of the park) in one day, including the overhang.
Nice scenery but there are deep creeks not too far in that are very difficult to go across without getting wet. We made it across 3 before giving up at the 4th crossing and got pretty wet. There are only logs and stick piles to get across and they are very unstable. Otherwise.

“Avoid parking in the same area as the overhang though!”
