Confirmed from Joseph B. Clarke Trail Head's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Paved rail-trail that's well-maintained and good for walking or biking.
What runners say about Joseph B. Clarke Trail Head
“Well maintained and great place for winter walk”
This is a paved 4-mile trail that is mostly flat but has a slight grade in places. Great for walking/running, cycling, strollers, and dogs. There are dog bags available at a few spots along the trail. There are benches along the northern half of the trail, but not on the southern half.
Nice paved trail with some road crossings. Start from southern end uphill to northern end then downhill back to start.
The trail head begins behind the Blauvelt Free Public Library off of Western Highway in Blauvelt . It finishes on Oak Tree Lane in front of the Tappan Sushi and Sashimi restaurant in Tappan. It is about 7.82 miles down and back .
It's a decent novice ride, with some scenic spots. About 7 miles long, slight downhill grade from N to S, otherwise pretty flat. It's not continuous riding since you have to cross some streets along the way.

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
