Confirmed from Katherine B. Winniford Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Katherine B. Winniford Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (409 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 4 mentions

“The park is older so the playground is not as clean as others around McKinney but I love that there is great walking areas and a safe parking lot.”

🌳 shaded & cool 4 mentions

“Mostly linear park with a mostly shaded playground with a basketball court.”

The gorge is a lovely piece of the NT stretching from the entrance further into the park in several sections. The most common way to view it properly is to join a boat tour which will give you up to three options to explore. We chose to tour two sections.

Edit/update - TL;DR - overfish + snakes This was a great place to fish, recently it has been side-by-side fishing, not even a place to park; lots of pressure and fish either stopped biting or died/went-away.

One of our first parks on the south/west side of town. The park is older so the playground is not as clean as others around McKinney but I love that there is great walking areas and a safe parking lot. There is also a wonderful sized field to run, kick a soccer ball, or fly a kite.

Nice park. Clean. They have a 1/2 court b-ball set up and nice playground. There is a creek that runs through it, with bridges over it and walking path beside it, and it creates a nice little pond. There is also tons of open space for football, soccer, etc. The creek and path run from Ridge past McKinney Ranch.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

💡 Lit for night running 3 mentions

“I went during night time and found 2 rattlesnakes (know nothing about snakes but 2 people saw the rattle) add-on some other water snakes (I guess) regularly found here and there.”

🚻 Restrooms 3 mentions

“The only reason I did 4 stars is because there is no light in the playground and no restrooms, other than that, great place.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
