Confirmed from Kishwaukee River Forest Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Some fun, walkable trails, with plenty of shade available on hot days here. The river area was my personal favorite place in the forest preserve - I saw a very cute frog, and there were also some very fun rocks to look at. Great place for a hike or just for a nice day outside!

Really nice natural area, running both sides of the Kishwaukee River. The Fort Vincennes shelter is worth a visit, such a fantastic building! Walking trails and lots of picnic tables plus good parking

This is such a a beautiful area. We were here for an adventure race, so no pictures. There are hiking paths, bike paths, & the river is a solid choice for paddling, tubing & wading. Be aware on the trails. Some are multi- use, hiking only & some do allow horses.

I enjoyed my Sunday at Kishwaukee River Forest Preserve. My dog and I took a walk down the very clean and clearly marked trail. It was peaceful and relatively quiet. Perfect getaway from the noise of the city.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
