Confirmed from Kum Bay Xerel's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Kum Bay Xerel
“Great, easy paved trail that goes along the river with beautiful views.”
“No shade in the parking area, and best to visit in the morning or evening when there's shade on the trail.”
“It's very peaceful even with the freeway the trail has been paved for quite a ways.”
Lucky picture of a river otter. Nice for morning walks, about 15 minutes in and 15 minutes back out.
Right off the Knighton Rd exit 673 you can be down to the Sacramento river in minutes. It's very peaceful even with the freeway the trail has been paved for quite a ways.
Great trail by the river with lots of shade. Restrooms are at the trail head and there are a few benches along the trail. We clocked the trail at .7 miles each way. You can go a little past the paved trail to some open BLM land to explore more if the hike is too short.
Decent stop. Nice trail.♿ Let's work to keep this trail clean. Pick up after your pets.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
