Confirmed from Latimer Woods' own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Old-growth forest featuring a nature trail with signs detailing the area's history.
What runners say about Latimer Woods
Secret Woodland Island just past 3rd street mall. Enter Latimer Woods housing and find the sidewalk path entering the woods on E Stratum Way. .4 mile loop is a perfect 15 minute get away or walk with the dog. Don't under estimate a small piece of quiet and enjoyment.
A gem of a city park. Latimer is only 10 acres, but has some truly impressive trees. We enjoyed the short walk through the woods, with signs that detail the history. The one negative is that the entrance to the park is located in a private apartment complex.
Small hike, could not find an entrance. Wanted to park through college but it said I needed a permit to park there. Wanted to park on side street but totally fenced off.
Small and tranquil spot around the College Mall area that makes for a pleasant walk, which is sometimes all you need. The placards posted throughout cue a visitor in to some local history of the woods and Bloomington more generally.
Trail conditions & character
“If you drive there, you must locate visitor parking at the back of the complex, then find the trail entrance behind a garage.”

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
