Confirmed from Legacy Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Legacy Trail

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (76 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 6 mentions

“The Legacy Trail is the perfect trail to walk or bike on a beautiful afternoon or anytime for that matter.”

🏃 great for running 3 mentions

“Great bike/running path free of cars that connects Venice to Sarasota, clean and well maintained”

Beautiful bike trail through state and community parks, over waterways as well.

★★★★★ — Tony , Dec 2021

This is a great trail. What an asset for the area. All paved. Great for walkers and bicyclists. DO NOT follow Google Map instructions to go to the address on Church St. Go to Nokomis Community Park and park there to pick up the trail which is just across the park area.

★★★★★ — Randy , Dec 2021

The Legacy Trail is the perfect trail to walk or bike on a beautiful afternoon or anytime for that matter. The beautiful trail sits where an old railroad track brought the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus years ago.

★★★★★ — Dionne , Apr 2024

It's a great trail and a good challenge for the average street cyclist. A good work out to do the entire length of it.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
