Confirmed from Legg Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Tranquil park boasting hiking and bike trails along a river amid woodlands.
What runners say about Legg Park
“These areas are clean and well-maintained with trail maps and markers throughout.”
“When one too distracted by the beautiful river, it can easily ends up in the Red Cedar Nature Preserve.”
All parks benefit the community. This one has trails for year-round use. During the spring and summer the trails pass through a densely forested landscape. These areas are clean and well-maintained with trail maps and markers throughout.
Fall is a perfect season to walk on this trail. It stared with mostly wood trail and it leads to Red Cider River. There are lots of mushrooms on the forest floor, around the dead trees. When one too distracted by the beautiful river, it can easily ends up in the Red Cedar Nature Preserve.
This park has perfect trails to start introducing your kids to hiking. They have well defined paths, but are quite natural in most spots (meaning kids have to pay attention to tree roots and the such). Plenty of path connections that make it easy to cut a hike short if need be.
Legg Park is great park and part of the Harris Nature Center system of connected trails. I walked the orange trail which was nice but a little muddy when rainy. The path is well walked so it is compacted mud and at higher elevations, leaves.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- At the trailheadparking — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
