Confirmed from Legion Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

22-acre green space with a playground, screened picnic shelters, a trail & basketball/tennis courts.

What runners say about Legion Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (1,342 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 6 mentions

“The pavilion was clean & had plenty of space for us all.”

I gave 4 out 5 only because they took out the public grills. Great place to be a kid or spend time with you dog at the dog park. Bring food and eat at one of the many picnic tables. You can get your cardio on walking the loop. Also has a small calisthenics workout area. Even has USB ports at blue charging bench.

I visited my sister who still loves in Owensboro, where we both grew up, and took my nephews to the Christmas lights at Legion Park. It was surreal being back there as an adult, taking some kids to a thing I used to do as a kid. The part equipment is a blast. The lights were great.

It's a fun park. The play area is not as big as Smothers', but this park has a lot more to do: it's more "woodsy", there's basketball hoops and soccer nets, there's a track to run or walk on, there's exercise equipment to do body-weight exercises on, and of course there is a play area (the play area has a Zipline,…

This is a very family friendly place. Where you can let your kids run and enjoy their selfs. Give them a little freedom. You can see them about everwhere. The place is wide open. I have had a wonderful time going. The grandkids love the basketball courts. The granddaughter enjoys the swings.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🐕 Dog-friendly 11 mentions

“I like to take my dog here because I can take the leash off of him, and he can play with other dogs that may be there in the designated fenced-in dog area.”

The practical stuff

  • AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
