Confirmed from Lineberger Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Train for children plus a pool and splash pad.
What runners say about Lineberger Park
“Pool was nice, clean and lifeguards were pleasant and alert.”
I know it may not have the best reputation, but we enjoy coming to this park because it's close to home. The kids love the splash pad and the younger kids playground. We haven't tried the pool or the basketball courts. The lower playground has poor drainage. The train is fun when it is running.
First time there. Was on a bicycle. Very nice place. Rode 8 miles to get there and enjoyed it. Well worth the ride.
This park has beautiful green space with trails and ample covered picnic tables. The playground is adequate with climbing structures and swings (no slides). There is also a small splashpad, as well as a little train to ride. Overall, great park with tons of space for running and dog walking.
Loved this park as a kid. It’s kinda lost its umph over the years. The train is a pretty cool addition in the last 15 years but other than that it’s kind of just lower quality. Playground equipment removed with the base still attached to the ground. Etc. The greenway beginning here is nice however.
Trail conditions & character
“There is also a splash pad in the same parking lot and a park around the block.”

The practical stuff
- AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- Stroller / wheelchairReported as smooth and step-free enough for a running stroller or a chair.
