We have not been able to confirm the surface, distance or shape of Lower Slade Brook Natural Area yet from its own listing, the park's website or runner reviews — so those cells stay blank rather than guess. What is below comes straight from the listing and from reviewers' own words. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

Don't come here expecting spectacular waterfalls or a challenging walk; but if you're looking for a nice, quiet natural area with beautiful benches and the sound of running water, this is the spot!

★★★★★ — Benjamin , Oct 2018

Very nice little hike with gorgeous water falls. Small parking area, but it gets you off the road. If you wish to get more miles in, walk north on Route 10 for a short distance and come down Pipers Lane(a Class VI road), then back via River Road. Please pack out what you carry in.

Beautiful little trail. Easy, short hike. The creation of the protected trail status is a great story about civic engagement and positive change happening thanks to proactive citizens!

★★★★★ — Bonnie , Apr 2024

Nice short and easy trail with some pretty Brook sites. There is also a log bench to rest or have a snack about half way between route 10 and River Rd.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
