Confirmed from Maple Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Maple Park

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (455 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

well-maintained 5 mentions

“The picnic pavilion is well maintained, and the bathrooms are clean.”

🌳 shaded & cool 3 mentions

“Abundance of shade, open green spaces, a ball field and a tennis court.”

Well-maintained park. Nice place to walk. Street parking is available on the east side of the park. The only negative is the location as Harlem Avenue is on the west side of the park where traffic is always very heavy during the day.

Very large open area great for doing a wide range of activities. Never too crowded and the playground is very fun for kids. The dog play area is locked and only allowed if you are a member, but walking the dogs around the rest of the park is still enjoyable.

Great playground with spaces for different aged kids. Lots of field space to run around too of you have a big group. There is also a picnic area and bathrooms (open seasonally i think). Great place to burn some energy for the kids!

The park was busy today so I was not able to get any photos of the playground without being the creepy guy taking pictures of kids. Instead, this was a quiet spot to rest after fighting much of the Chicago traffic, park the van for a bit and then eat my lunch from one of the benches in the park.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

Plan your run at Maple Park

The practical stuff

  • AccessDawn to dusk — the gates close, so do not plan a run that finishes after dark
  • DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
  • ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
  • LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
  • At the trailheadrestrooms — reported by runners
  • DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
