Confirmed from Maxwell Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Basketball court in a park known for its disc golf course.
What runners say about Maxwell Park
“Very clean, seems safe and good space for kids to run around and play.”
Clean and well kept. Merry go round is gone, it was replaced with grass. They've add a concrete bags set and a bocce ball course. The pavilion is nice and there is a walking path around the park too.
Maxwell Park brings back many memories for me since my daughter ran many cross-country meets from middle school through senior year. Nestled in between Parkside Junior High and I-57, Parkside is also adjacent to baseball fields on campus and to baseball fields just north of the park.
It’s a really lovely park, and the disc golf course is really well done. Be careful because there’s a lot of Stubbs, so be extra careful if you’re walking around and sandals during the summer months. But a great place to be and walk around, and holds a lot of memories with cross country growing up
There is a picnic shelter and playground. Also, there is a large disc golf course throughout the park. The gem of the park is the wooded area at the back of the park. It's a great place for walking and birdwatching. The whole park is a good place to go geocaching! Watch out for ticks, though.

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfacePaved — asphalt or concrete. Fast and predictable, runnable year-round, and fine with a stroller
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeRunners describe real tree cover here — it makes a summer afternoon workable
- LightingRunners report lights on the path — useful for pre-dawn and after-work miles. Lighting and opening hours are separate things, so check both.
- At the trailheadparking, restrooms, water — reported by runners
- DogsWelcome, per reviewers. Leash rules vary by park — the trailhead sign is the authority.
