Confirmed from Metacomet Trail - New England National Scenic Trail's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

🪧 well-marked 4 mentions

“A well-marked trail, and good place with a view once you reach Rattlesnake cliff.”

Beautiful hiking trail! Muddy in the beginning, so wear hiking boots or shoes with good grip. The overlooks are amazing and worth every minute. About 1 hour and 20 minutes to and from Rattlesnake mountain. Rugged terrain towards the caves Not for a beginner, so plan accordingly. Snacks, water and maybe a walking stick

Lately I've been coming here a little more often because of its beauty it is a moderate hike to get to Rattlesnake Mountain and it has a nice view once you get to the top. There are also a lot of big rock formations that you can explore and look at which are very beautiful.

Love Rattlesnake mountain! It's a perfect hike with just enough vertical in first few hundred feet, nice flat then your up the steeper rocky section before the summit. I used to run this trail to train for races and it was perfect! Nice view from the summit looking Southeast👍

Wonderful trial with beautiful views of valley. It's takes a little bit effort for the hike, don't expect it to be like normal walk. Wear trial shoes or at least with good grip. Plan for around 5 hrs to complete the entire trial for novice hikers.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.
