Confirmed from Mine Hill Preserve's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Preserved nature reserve featuring trails that loop through scenic terrain, as well as remnants of a working iron mine.
What runners say about Mine Hill Preserve
“As you traverse the scenic trails, you'll encounter remnants of an Old Mining Town, and truly feeling like you've stepped back in time.”
“It's a perfect blend of outdoor adventure and historical exploration that's sure to captivate hikers of all ages.”
This is one of my favorite places to hike. It has a loop trail and you can see the old caves but are fenced off. Dog friendly and great place to see old ruins of buildings.
Great hike, longer than expected the trail itself is what I would call engaging, challenging in some areas and very casual and others the kiln and ovens where well maintained, we found the hike going counter-clockwise to be the most efficient and less strenuous.
Pristine and peaceful in the snow! The Land Trust did an amazing job with the informational signs and the trails are great for a 1-2 hour moderate hike. We didn’t see anyone else there so it’s very COVID safe (at least in the winter)
What a great hike. The land trust has done a great job of sharing this historic land with the community. The outer loop which is 3.5 miles is a challenging hike upthe mountainand around and down the other side. The topography is ever changing with streams and ravenes of fallen granite.
Trail conditions & character
“As you traverse the scenic trails, you'll encounter remnants of an Old Mining Town, and truly feeling like you've stepped back in time.”
“Go straight to the Furnace site to learn the history of where you're about to hike and then go clockwise to do the main loop (blue blazers).”
“Lots of parking, trails are a little bit difficult for someone with bad knees but it’s worth a visit, nice scenery.”
“Parts of the trails were fairly steep, use caution in autumn as acorns fall on your head and trails can be slippery.”
