Confirmed from Montaña de Oro State Park's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Huge oceanside park with rugged terrain including cliffs, beaches & hills, and trails for exploring.
What runners say about Montaña de Oro State Park
“Trails are pretty eroded and could use maintenance, but still a fun place to ride MTB with family and always a great view at the top of Hazard Peak.”
“Every path offers breathtaking coastal views — peaceful, scenic, and absolutely worth the visit.”
“Easy walk, can be as long as you want - there and back hike, not a loop.”
Try the Spooner beach and Bluff trails. Very nice view and the surrounding is quite, the only sound is the sound of water wave touch the rocks…. the sound of sea… and the sky is blue… the air is fresh… Short walking trail (0.3-2 mile) but worthy. Quite a few benches/wooden seats along the trails.
Montana de Oro is one of the most beautiful beaches to visit. It's usually very quiet with these than 20 people on it at most. The shore is all kinds of small rocks rather than sand. I wouldn't say its too great for water play because the water is usually pretty cold but it sure is beautiful.
Such a beautiful park with stunning trails overlooking dramatic cliffs and the ocean. Every path offers breathtaking coastal views — peaceful, scenic, and absolutely worth the visit. Best of all, it’s free!
It's a great park with many different things to do and I love they don't charge for entry or parking. Trails are pretty eroded and could use maintenance, but still a fun place to ride MTB with family and always a great view at the top of Hazard Peak. Sand dunes and tide pools are great fun with the family as well.
