Confirmed from Eagle Rock's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
What runners say about Eagle Rock
“Beautiful and secluded if you're looking to get away from the embarcadero & more the popular tourists while in Morro bay”
Before I found Eagle Rock, I had these questions. Now my answers! 1. Does it exist? Yes! 2. Is it open to the public? Yes, there’s a sign that says “trail” that was clearly placed there by the city! 3. How do I find it? Look for the gravel driveway on Cerrito Place. You will see the sign that says trail.
It is a very short walk up this dirt trail to a sweet rocky hilltop tucked in the trees right in the middle of the neighborhood. Great views of the rock. Cool downed trees and rocky outcrops make for sweet spots to take your morning coffee and enjoy the sunrise. I've never run into anyone else there.
Amazing place the rock us super cool but there is also a ton of squirrels that would walk up to you and they were super fat. Literally when on me and in my hands.
Also known as Cerrito Peak. 5 minutes to the top. Short, rocky, and steap hike, worth the 360 view!

The practical stuff
- AccessOpen 24 hours — no gate to beat, so a 5am or a 10pm run both work
- SurfaceMixed — more than one surface along the route, so check the segment you plan to run
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
