Confirmed from Mountain Way's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.
Mountaintop recreational area providing a playground, trails & volleyball & basketball courts.
What runners say about Mountain Way
Great trails from powder mill all the way to Morris plains. Maps need updating and some trail markers are missing but great scenery. Try the yellow trail and you'll see the disc golf course and a nice stream with some calming sounds!
Interesting trail system, although the blazes are quite old and in desparate need of a refresh. The hike from the reservoir up to the top of the mountain was pleasant and reasonably challenging with a nice vista at the top.
I love the trails in this park. It's one of the hidden gems of Morris County. Well marked and maintained, you can get in a good hike going up and down the rocky hills. Wear appropriate footwear and you'll be fine.
Great park! Has a cute little playground for kids and the trails are really nice. We did the white trail which has some ups and downs and a decent bit of rockiness which may get your breathing up a little, but is an easy enough trail for anyone and it's only a mile. Our dog had a good time too!

The practical stuff
- AccessPosted hours — posted hours below; park gates sometimes close earlier than the listing says
- SurfaceNatural surface — easiest on the joints and the most fun, but expect roots, rocks and mud after rain
- DistanceNot reported. Trail systems often quote total path mileage rather than a single loop, so measure the route you actually want before you drive out.
- ShadeNot reported. Assume some of it is exposed and carry water in summer.
