Confirmed from Mt. Airy Trail Entrance's own listing, the park or land manager's website, and runner reviews. Blank cells mean we could not verify that fact — we would rather say "not reported" than invent one. There is no Easy / Moderate / Hard rating on this page on purpose: a one-word difficulty score tells you nothing about whether a trail suits your run. Surface, distance, shade and hours do.

What runners say about Mt. Airy Trail Entrance

Pulled from public reviews of this trail (39 of them) — the things people bring up again and again, in their own words. Nothing here is written by us.

🏞️ beautiful scenery 3 mentions

“It’s a place where history and nature intertwine, offering a scenic stroll through a neighborhood that whispers tales of its colonial past.”

Great spot to park and access the trails, whether you want a route that goes north or south. Plenty of options for easy or more strenuous hikes, and access to both sides of the creek right at the bottom of the hill since theres a bridge.

★★★★★ — Andrew , Jan 2024

Clear of fallen branches, and mostly clear of storm debris, this trail entrance remains one of our favorites. The leaves are starting to fall, but it's still pretty green in the woods, so the steep rocky main trail in and out of this entrance is I'll pretty clear. Just take your time in wetter weather!

★★★★★ — Dawne , Oct 2022

Street parking only at this trail entrance which is a bit hidden in a residential neighborhood. The trail in is wide and rocky with a steady decline. This is a great place to start for access to many of the other trails in the park - easy to make a loop hike!

★★★★★ — Amanda , Aug 2021

This trail entrance will get you to Forbidden Drive and the Yellow and White trails, but it's usually rocky and somewhat washed out.

Trail conditions & character

What this trail is actually like underfoot and overhead, taken from its own listing and from reviews. Each one links to every other trail with the same character. Busy or quiet is reported as a plain fact, not a plus or a minus — a runner heading out alone at dawn often wants company on the path, and someone running intervals wants an empty one.

🌲 Natural surface / singletrack 5 mentions

“The leaves are starting to fall, but it's still pretty green in the woods, so the steep rocky main trail in and out of this entrance is I'll pretty clear.”
